Memorial Park

The memorial park was originally established to commemorate those who served in World War One.

On Friday 22nd May, 1931 Lord Somers officially opened and named the Birchip shire soldiers' memorial park.

Lord Somers, and Lady Somers, visited Birchip and Wycheproof where they were met at the railway station by the shire president and councillors, a local scout troop forming a guard of honor and the shire president (Mr. Rickard).

Today, the park is a family friendly park, right in the centre of town. There are areas to play and picnic and the public toilets are on-site. The swimming pool and skate park are also co-located at the park.

The park is used to celebrate community events and anniversary’s and the cenotaph at the entrance to the park is used for ANZAC day and Remembrance Day ceremonies.

The facilities, parking and toilets are all wheelchair accessible.
