Employment

Birchip has many opportunities for entrepreneurs wanting to open a new business, for professionals wanting to grow their careers and for people looking for casual employment over the busy harvest and cropping periods from April to June and November to January.

The Buloke Shire Council, Birchip P-12 School, Birchip Cropping Group, O’Connors, TMC Enviro and East Wimmera Health Service are large employers in the area and there are many more employment opportunities in the trades and agriculture sector.

International residents looking to gain employment are supported through various skilled migrant programs and through the visa extension ‘88-day requirement’. ‘Specified work’ can be undertaken in many industries in our regional area.

The Birchip Hotel are always looking for casual staff with a particular focus on hospitality, front of house and kitchen cook roles which may complement “work opportunities” for couples.

Birchip Forum can provide more information about what employment and business opportunities are currently available. TMC ENVIRO

TMC Enviro is owned and operated by Tom and Celeste McLaughlan and they have a strong history of employing permanent and temporary residents who come to Australia on a Working Holiday Visa or are looking to extend their time in Australia.

“Around 40-50% of our employees at any one time will be on a working holiday visa or originally came on a working holiday visa,” Tom McLoughlan said.  At the moment, immigration officials seem to have a real appetite to get more people working in regional areas and they are expediting the visa process which is great. Our record for getting a visa approved is currently 14 days”. Contact | TMC enviro
