Where is Birchip?

Birchip is located on the southern edge of the Mallee in N.W. Victoria, approximately 320 km from Melbourne.

Birchip is situated in the Shire of Buloke with a town population of 822 and an area population of 1200.  Other townships within the shire are Charlton, Donald, Sea LakeWycheproof, Watchem, Berriwillock, Culgoa, Nandaly and Nullawil and they all have a range of exciting events and tourist attractions, making it worth a visit.

It is the perfect place to stop for lunch on your way through to larger regional cities such as Mildura and Swan Hill. We have a family friendly park right in the centre of town opposite the lunch spots. The park is fenced and children love playing on the green lawn. Best of all, in the warmer months, the local swimming pool is right next door!

Birchip enjoys hot, dry summers, beautiful autumns, mild winters, glorious springs and amazing Mallee Sunsets.  Birchip is a great central location to visit the Silo Art trail, Tyrell Lake Night Skies, the Grampians, Swan Hill, Horsham and Tchum Lake.

To travel to Birchip from Melbourne there are two preferred routes, one through Ballarat via the Sunraysia Highway and one through Bendigo via the Calder Highway.

The farms in the area typically grow wheat, barley, canola, and other cereals. Some people farm pigs, turkeys, ducks and cattle but most livestock in the district are sheep.
